Reitha S. Weeks, PhD
Resident Scientist
Reitha received her Ph.D. in Genetics from University of Washington
(1987). She did post-doctoral training at Seattle Biomedical Research
Institute under Dr. Ken Stuart, studying the human parasite Leshmania.
She did further post-doctoral training at Bristol-Meyers Squbb in
Seattle. She worked under Dr. Kim Folger in the Immunology Dept.
studying antibody maturation in stem cell- and traditional-transgenic
mice. She has been a scientist at Cell Therapeutics, Inc. studying
gene expression.
From 1996-2004, she was at MediQuest Therapeutics,Inc. in Seattle,
where the focus was on developing small molecules against cancer
and inflammatory diseases. For the last 3 years, she served as Director
of Biological Sciences.
After 13 years in the biotech industry, Reitha joined NWABR as
Resident Scientist in November 2004. She is working on developing
high school education curriculum and assisting with outreach and
member services programs.
Reitha has been active for many years in Association for Women
in Science (AWIS) as a mentor and on the Board. She has been a mentor
for the UW Women In Science and Engineering (WISE) program and on
the steering committee for Ballard High School Biotechnology Academy.
