Making Connections: Expanding Our Web

Making Connections:  Expanding Our Web exposes students, teachers and the general publich to neuroscience research and advances in biotechnology by focusing on the brain and nervous system.  This information is shared by teaching basic science and health concepts.

A partnership of the University of Washington, Pacific Science Center, Group Health Cooperative and the Washington Association for Biomedical Research, Making Connections promotes understanding of, enthusiasm for, and participation in health science and science careers.

Funding for these programs is provided by the National Center for Research Resources at the National Institute of Health.   Funding is administered by the University of Washington.

Program Components:

The Making Connections "Neuroscience for the New Millenium" Summer Institute for Educators.   Held at the University of Washington, the institute presents information about advances in brain reserach and promotes partnerships between educators and research scientists.  Participants may earn five tuition-free credits.  For more information call 206-685-8335.

Brain Power, a traveling science/health program for middle schools created by Pacific Science Center and Group Health Cooperative.  This program incluses a previsit workshop, an assembly, exhibits, and a curriculum to help students understand the brain and how it affects behavior.  For more information call 206-443-2851.

Statewide Speakers Bureau.  Administered by NWABR, this program provides speakers on topics of biomedical research and science careers.  NWABR also sponsors an annual student competition for middle school students and provides K-12 curricula materials for teachers.
