Judge Information

Dear Expo Judge-

Thank you for your willingness to judge the 2008 Student Biotech Expo! We appreciate your time and commitment in support of science education. The judging process has two aims; to provide all students with written feedback and to determine winning entries. In order to fulfill these aims, you will use the following process:

1) Review the Judging Criteria for the category you are judging

Category Judging Criteria

2) Determine which students you are to review

Consult the Student Database with Judging Assignments

3) Use a Judging Feedback Form for each student's project

You will receive some blank copies of these forms along with your student projects. You can also download them here. We will collect these at the Expo after the judging sessions. You may want to write some comments beforehand and bring your sheets with you. Use CHECK MARKS only, do NOT use numerical scores! These sheets will be returned to students. Please consider your tone carefully and focus on constructive comments.

4) Review the Student Projects that you receive.

Student projects should be labeled with Two-Letter Category Abbreviation_Two-Letter School Abbreviation_Student's Last Name. For a list of abbreviations, see our general criteria page. For example, Joe Smith from Ballard with a creative writing project should be labeled WC_BA_Smith

Hard copies and disks will be mailed to you.
Note that not all students will have submitted both hard and electronic copies. Also, some projects may be missing. Any written documents that accompany projects can also be found online below. Feel free to review additional projects in your category. Contact information for other judges in your category is available upon request.

Student Projects (zip files) - not all projects included!

5) Fill out a Summary Scoring Form (fill out for projects that are possible award contenders)

In order to compare projects with other judges, summarize your student scores on the Summary Scoring Form. Students will not see this form and we will not collect it. It is only necessary to score those projects that you feel other judges should also consider (i.e. projects may be eligible for an honorable mention or higher). However, many judges like to complete the information for all their projects.
