Hanson, Nancy. Email interview. 11 Dec. 2002.  Nancy Hanson the contact at the University of Washington for the Werner’s syndrome department.  She graciously offered to answer my questions after informing me that Dr. Martin, my previously planned interviewee was too busy.  She told me a lot about the history of Werner’s as well as the UW’s involvement.

International Registry of Werner Syndrome. 6 Sept. 2000. University of Washington 5 Dec. 2002 http://www.pathology.washington.edu/research/werner/registry/frame2.html.  This website provides information aimed toward the scientific community about Werner’s syndrome.  It includes a diagram of the mutation on the gene as well as an overview of WRN.  I used this site for a general overview of Werner’s syndrome and to find links to other websites.

Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, OMIM ™. 3 Apr. 2002. John Hopkins University. 6 Dec. 2002 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/htbin-post/Omim/dispmim?277700.  This website contains a listing of research done about various diseases, in this case Werner’s syndrome.  It chronologically orders the findings and summarizes them into a few paragraphs.  I used this site as an example of one of the experiments done by past researchers.

Oshima, Junko., et al.  “Lack of WRN Results in Extensive Deletion at Nonhomologous Joining Ends.” Cancer Research Jan. 2002: 547-551.  This article, written by Dr. Oshima from the University of Washington, deals with her research in determining the function of the WRN protein.  It contains an overview of Werner’s syndrome as well as detailed analysis of their findings.  From this article, I found my interviewee.

Pae, Chong.  Personal Interview. 3 Jan. 2003.  Ms. Pae is a graduate student currently working at the University of Washington in the Health Sciences Department.  She has a degree in pathology.  She assisted in the research and writing of the article  “Lack of WRN Results in Extensive Deletion at Nonhomologous Joining Ends” during her first year working at the UW.

Progeria (Werner Syndrome) 1 May. 2003. eMedicine.com. 6 Dec. 2002 http://www.emedicine.com/DERM/topic697.htm.  This site contains a review of Werner’s syndrome, including a list of physical symptoms.  It also contains statistical information about the rate of occurrence and average age of death.  I used these statistics, among others in my paper.

Werner Syndrome. 2 Dec. 2002. National Center for Biotech Information. 6 Dec. 2002 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/disease/Werner.html.  This website contains a brief overview of Werner’s syndrome.  It identified the chromosome the WRN gene was located on.  The site also provided me with a link to OMIM, which I also used in the paper.

Werner’s Syndrome and Human Aging. Fujiwara, Yashisad, ed. et al. New York: Plenum Press, 1985 Vol 190 of Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology. 512 vols.  This edition of the multi-volume collection contains research dissertations and all kinds of articles written by researchers.  It had case by case studies of each patient and their symptoms.  I used this resource to further complete a list of symptoms.
