My mentor was Cara Varley, a researcher at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Since October, Cara has helped me in numerous ways. She helped me find a lot of excellent information in the various elements of avian influenza, including molecular information, basic information, and history. She also arranged for an interview with Angela Peck, a senior fellow in pediatric infectious diseases, who happened to be working in Bangkok with the CDC when news of bird flu outbreaks first appeared. Cara checked over the webpage content for accuracy and gave helpful suggestions to make the website even better. Every time I emailed her, I would ask for feedback and help and tell her how the webpage was going. Cara always replied promptly and she always gave helpful feedback and numerous links to flu resources.
I have learned a lot throughout the mentorship experience. The articles and websites that she sent were particularly helpful and her advice was very useful and helped to shape the webpage that you are looking at today. Even though we only communicated through e-mail, I still feel that this mentorship experience was beneficial to the creation of this webpage and I could not have done it without her.
