ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Hello! My name is Jamie Li and I am the creator of this website. I did this website for the Biotech Expo. It is a sort of science fair that's held every year that revolves around the themes of biotechnology and biomedicine. All students participating can present their projects through a multitude of mediums, such as an art project, a piece of music, a website, and many others. The opportunity to attend the BioExpo presented itself in my genetics class. Doing this project was mandatory in order to pass genetics, so I really felt the need to pour all my efforts into this project.

My topic for this project is Biodiesel. I chose to do it in the website category because graphic design and creating websites has always been in my field of interest. I was never formally taught how to design websites, but I do like to challenge myself into producing the best work that I possibly can. As for the actual topic, I chose biodiesel because I believe in it. Biodiesel was a recent discovery for me. I had heard very little about biodiesel before this project and it had greatly piqued my interest, so I decided this project was the perfect opportunity to find out more. My drive to research biodiesel was supplemented by the fact that I care a lot about the environment. It is clear now that the quality of the environment is on a decline and biodiesel sounds promising to the future of our world.

What inspired me to do this piece of work was seeing how little others knew about this potential alternative fuel. I wanted to educate myself on biodiesel as well as others. The puropse of this work is to at least educate the readers on biodiesel and get them thinking about the environment, then maybe they can even consider using biodiesel. Before doing the website, I had no idea how to lay out my pages. I tried many different styles but I just couldn't decide. Some were too stylized and clashed with the text; others were just too plain for my taste. I wasted a lot of time experimenting with different layouts since I didn't have a clear idea to begin with. In the end I decided on a clean layout with a header and a body with a specific color scheme. Since I'm not incredibly experienced with HTML, I encountered many problems. Sometimes links wouldn't work or pictures didn't align right. A lot of time was invested into cleaning up the site and working out the kinks to produce the final product.
