The Northwest Association for Biomedical Research is delighted to announce that Francis S. Collins, MD, PhD, Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the National Institutes of Health, will engage us with his vision of "Genomics and Our Shared Future" at our upcoming Annual Dinner. He will also present our Dr. Alvin J. Thompson Award to local researchers Maynard Olson, Bob Waterston, Phil Green, Lee Rowen, Debbie Nickerson and LaDeana Hillier, whose breakthrough discoveries in genome sequencing led to the completion of the Human Genome Project: The international effort to determine the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA.

2004 Annual Dinner Guests

The Honorable Christine Gregoire, Governor of Washington, will present our Outstanding Partner in Education Award to Laurie Odegaard, a high school science teacher whose extraordinary dedication to inspiring the next generation has generated a deeper understanding of the role of biomedical research and its impact on our lives. Annual Dinner attendees are invited to host teachers, students and mentors from NWABR's Student Biotech Expo at their tables - fostering thoughtful, intergenerational dialogue between the present and future bioscience communities.
