Cheryl Weaver, CCRC, CCRA, Board Past President

Cheryl Weaver is the Director of Research Integrity & Safety at Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI). Her current position involves oversight of the various Committees (Institutional Review Board, Institutional Biosafety, Animal Care and Use, Safety), Environmental Health & Safety, Policy Review Committee and Clinical Research auditing, monitoring & billing compliance to ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Cheryl has over 30 years of experience in lab, drug, device, biologic and gene therapy research having worked at the Northwest Lipid Research Laboratory, Pacific Biometrics, and BRI.  In her previous position of Administrative Director at BRI, Cheryl worked to increase process efficiencies across the entire Clinical Research Program by using the Virginia Mason Production System (LEAN). She established the Institution-wide clinical research policies, procedures and tools, internal audit and monitor program which continues to emphasize staff education. Cheryl worked closely with BRI and Virginia Mason leadership, research Investigators, and the Institutional Review Board to ensure research transparency and to create a safe environment for both participants and staff.   

Cheryl earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Washington in 1985. She completed the Biomedical Regulatory Affairs Certification at the University of Washington in 2004 and is certified as a Research Coordinator and Monitor by the Association for Clinical Research Professionals. She received her Lean Certification through the Virginia Mason Production System in 2014.  Cheryl was President of the Board of Directors of the NWABR for 3 years (2013-2015), having served on their Board since 2009 to present.
