Rub-A-Dub-Dub: Suds and Science
Workshop developed by Reitha Weeks, PhD, NWABR
NWABR engages students and adults with workshops that connect science and everyday products like soap and detergents. Being an informed consumer requires critical evaluation skills and a basic understanding of science and regulations. We provide this fee-based workshop in and out of classroom settings for middle and high school audiences. The history and science of soap and bubbles is explored through lab activities and label analysis.
The one-to-two hour workshop includes a presentation with hands-on activities and student-centered demonstrations. Participants will make and take home an effervescent bath tablet.
Goals
- Appreciate the interesting history of soap and types of soaps and detergents
- Compare consumer aspects of soap products, such as labeling and ingredients
- Understand the science of air bubble and CO2 bubble formation and structure through hands-on activities
- Improve observation and measuring skills
The workshop can take place at your location. For more information about the program, scheduling and fees, please contact Reitha Weeks at rweeks@nwabr.org.
