Swedish Research - Workshop Series

NWABR has contracted with Swedish to run a series of three half day research-focused workshops aimed at mentoring physicians, junior investigators and other research staff.

These workshops are free for Swedish Research staff and other guests invited by Swedish.

The series of three workshops will be held from approcimately 8:30AM-1:00PM on the following dates:

  • Friday, January 17, 2020.  
  • Tuesday, March 17 2020.
  • Tuesday, May 19 2020.

The speakers for the first conference held in January 2020 were:

  • Dr. James Bowen (Swedish)
  • Dr. Kathryn Schuff (OHSU) - The role of IRBs in research, consent, broad consent, and biorepositories.
  • Ms. Stephanie Christopher (Providence) - Tools for Advancing Patient-Centered Clinical Trials
  • Dr. Lynn Rose (Benaroya Research Institute and University of Washington) - An overview as to why the FDA is involved in the regulation of biomedical research, what you need to do be ready for and IND application and how to stay audit ready.

The speakers for the second conference to be held on March 17, 2020, will include:

  • Mandy Morneault, University of Washington - Root Cause Analysis and Corrective and Preventative Actions.
  • Terri Butler, ITHS - Bringing Therapeutics, Medical Devices and Diagnostics to Market.
  • Bill Howe, University of Washington - Using Visualizations to compelling report data and also as a decision making aid.

The  following speaker has been confirmed for the third conference to be held on May 19, 2020:

  • Abraham Flaxman, University of Washington - Ideation: a fresh approach to brainstorming new ideas.

The location for the March conference is the Swedish Education and Conference Center (SECC), Room C, Swedish Cherry Hill Campus, James Tower, 500 17th Ave., 98122.  More location details are included below.

Swedish Education and Conference Center (SECC), James Tower

The Swedish Education Conference Center is located on the main floor of the Swedish Cherry Hill campus at the base of the James Tower. The Cherry Hill campus is located east of the First Hill campus. Follow James Street five blocks east to the intersection of Cherry Street and 16th Avenue. Turn right onto 16th Avenue.

The parking garage is on the right. Park in the parking garage and enter the hospital via the skybridge.

Once inside the building, follow the signs to the James Tower. Follow the long hallway to the lobby, go past the information desk and Starbucks. Just past Starbucks, turn right and enter the double doors into the James Tower. Once inside the James Tower, turn left and walk past the elevator. The entrance to the Swedish Education and Conference Center is on your right.
